Food labelling and label design

The term label is commonly used to mean a small, sticky piece of paper that you can place on an object to identify it.  But a Bizerba label is so much more than that; particularly in the case of food labelling.

Food labelling INFORMATION:

The Food Information Regulations 2014 are very specific on what needs to go on the label; weight, price, ingredients, allergens, nutrition information etc. are all required and have to be printed to minimum sizes on all food labelling.  This can either be pre-printed on the Bizerba label or printed at the point of sale by a Bizerba scale or weigh-labeller.  Either way it’s important that the label is designed to accommodate this information.

Food labelling INDICATOR:

A label can indicate the freshness of a product with a use-by-date, but if the product is not stored at the correct temperature the shelf life of the product could be compromised.  However, it is possible now, to print the Bizerba label with a special ink that changes colour over time.  This colour change can be tailored to react to temperature changes. These Time Temperature Indicators can therefore be a far better indicator of product freshness.

Food labelling PACKAGING COMPONENT:

The label can be used to seal the product packaging.  Special materials are available now which can indicate whether the product has been tampered with or that break up into small pieces if an attempt is made to remove the label.

Food labelling COMMUNICATOR:

As well as the traditional text on a label, it is possible to embed further information in the label with RFID technology or QR codes – which can be scanned with a smart phone, taking you to a web page or video link, giving whatever information you want to pass on to your customers, whether that be your own website or perhaps a video showing the farm where the food was produced.

Food labelling BRANDING:

Branding is one of the most important aspects of any business, large or small.  Simply put, your brand is your promise to your customer.  It tells them what they can expect from your products and services, and it differentiates your offering from your competitors’.  Your brand is derived from who you are, who you want to be and who people perceive you to be.

In today’s never-ending competition to attract customers, eye-catching decorative Bizerba thermal labels are an indispensable sales tool. Individually designed and instantly recognisable. They can be pre-printed with your logo and contact details. Leaving space for all other required information to be printed in-store at either the pre-pack stage or at the serve-over counter.  Creative food labelling can quite simply be… success with your name on it.
